Cisco Secure Firewall Adaptive Security Appliance and Secure Firewall Threat Defense Software EIGRP Denial of Service Vulnerability
A vulnerability in EIGRP (Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol) handling in Cisco Secure Firewall devices could allow an unauthenticated attacker on an adjacent network segment to trigger a memory leak by sending crafted EIGRP update messages at high rates. The memory leak causes the firewall to eventually reload, creating a denial of service. Affected products include Firepower 2100/1000/9000/4100 Series, Secure Firewall 3100/4200/1200/200/6100 Series, ASAv, Threat Defense Virtual, and Management Center. Cisco has released software updates; there are no workarounds available.
- Network access to the firewall from an adjacent network segment (same VLAN or routing domain)
- EIGRP enabled on the firewall
- No authentication required
Patching may require device reboot — plan for process interruption
