Cisco Secure Firewall Adaptive Security Appliance and Secure Firewall Threat Defense Software Object Group Access Control List Bypass Vulnerabilities
Multiple vulnerabilities in Cisco Secure Firewall Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) and Secure Firewall Threat Defense (FTD) software allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to bypass configured access controls. The issue is a logic error in the Object Group Search (OGS) implementation that fails to properly evaluate access control policies. An attacker can send traffic that should be blocked by firewall rules using object groups, allowing unauthorized access to protected networks behind the firewall. Affected platforms include Firepower 1000/3000/4100/9000 Series, Secure Firewall 1200/3100/4200 Series, Secure Firewall Threat Defense Virtual, and Adaptive Security Virtual Appliance (ASAv). Cisco has released software updates to address these vulnerabilities.
- Network access to the firewall interface
- Firewall configured with Object Group Search (OGS) in access control policies
- Traffic destined for a protected network behind the firewall
Patching may require device reboot — plan for process interruption
